Service with a Smile–Lunch Volunteers

If you’re interested in volunteering, you and your colleagues can make a difference by donating about an hour of your time to help serve hot, nutritious meals to the tables where our clients are gathered for lunch.

At lunchtime the room literally hums with the sound of several different languages as well as the universal communication that happens when people share good food with friends. We call this volunteer opportunity “Service with a Smile” because our seniors so appreciate kind gestures. We are looking for teams of two to four volunteers to serve lunch on a weekday from 11:20 to 12:30. You can start by signing up for a single date and then consider the possibility of an ongoing commitment (monthly, quarterly, or as it fits your schedule).

What to Expect as a Volunteer
During lunchtime, the seniors are seated at their tables and volunteers take the plates of food and cups of milk to them. Based on our needs, you may be asked to help either inside or outside of the kitchen area. Here are some tasks you may be asked to perform during the lunch service:
• Wrap and pass out silverware
• Serve plates of food and cups of milk to the tables
• Help with post-lunch clean-up and trash removal
